Nuwakot: Colorful Culture Program with a story to tell - Duet, Dance and Popular

Nuwakot Homestay consists of majority Brahmin and Chettri community. The cultural program includes a "Deuda" Dance and a "Lok Dohori" song.

Impact

Despite these cultural programs are widely popular, it has been a challenge to preserve and transfer this uniquely genuine genre to Younger Generation. It's practice has kept its pace in at least showcasing what the culture and tradition.

How it's done?

"Deuda" dance is a rare form of dance found in Nepal where they sing, enchant and dance talking about their life and daily topics. Mid-west and mostly far west Nepal is popular in Deuda dance. Dance is performed in circular manner by touching shoulders between adjacent dancers. Legs are stepped back and forth with the song sang by the dancer.

"Lok dohori" is a duet singing challenge performed live, the singers throw punchlines to their opponent and conclude every punchline with a rhyme. This could be like a debate in the form of song, the participants could talk about funny moments, love, general problems or anything that makes appealing sense to the listeners. This genre is found only in Nepal and is also a very popular form of music in Nepal.
