What to Expect
The 3-hour workshop begins with an insightful session into the intricate world of stone carving. Accompanied by seasoned artisans, you'll unravel the process of this time-honored craft that has been passed down through generations of Newari sculptors.
Following a brief introduction to the art of stone carving, your instructor will provide you with a precisely proportioned stone, setting the stage for your creative journey. The instructor's initial etching on the stone will serve as a guiding line to carve a design on the stone. Using a set of carving tools; a compass, hammer, chisel, and rake; you'll be expertly guided through the process of carving intricate design on the stone. As you learn the finesse required to chisel the stone, you'll realize that stone carving is more about precision and artistry than sheer strength.
As the class draws to a close, you'll hold in your hands a fully finished stone sculpture—a tangible testament to your newfound skills and appreciation for this ancient art form. This unique piece of art serves as a memento of your time in Nepal.
