Experience Detail:
Kirtipur lies approximately 7 km southwest from the center of Kathmandu, and sits atop a hillside adjacent to Hattiban Forest, with views of Kathmandu Valley, as well as the Himalayas on a clear day! The city is home to the ethnic Newar people, the indigenous group of Kathmandu Valley. Their culture, language, cuisine, and arts are different from other Nepali groups. The city is rich in history and culture, and famous for its authentic local Newari cuisine.
Start the day by gathering with your playmates for the day at the meeting point in the morning and travel together to Kirtipur Community Homestay. Upon arrival, expect a warm welcome from the community followed by Sagun. Walk towards the field while listening to the tales of the festival from the locals. Change into your field get-up then play team games in the mud while also learning to plant the rice seedlings from the fellow workers. Near to the end of the activity, fill yourself with Samay Baji Set, a traditional Newari meal set to conclude your day. After bidding farewell to the locals, you will be departing back to Kathmandu.
