Impact on
Community

Though a stone's throws away from the Chitwan National Park, Barauli never got much attention as a travel destination and saw little to no travelers before. With Community Homestay’s involvement, Barauli has seen more and more travelers each year. Tourism has now become a viable source of income. Although everyone in the community is involved in many different ways, the homestays have provided an opportunity for the local women to assume greater responsibilities in the community as they rise through the ranks of the community. As a response to the pandemic, CHN initiated the Koseli Project in 2020 to help tourism-dependent communities to sell local products in urban markets. The women from Barauli have been actively involved in this project. With the training received from CHN, they have been creating various home decors products from the abandoned elephant grass.
